Project Description

The goal of this piece is to provide a thorough overview of the anatomy of the aerodigestive tract that readers of the accompanying article can refer to as they learn about causes, sequelae, and sites of upper airway obstruction. An initial sagittal view is provided for orienting the reader. Color-coded regions indicate the extent of the pharynx and larynx in purple and teal, respectively. These regions are further expanded in insets that offer zoomed up views and additional cross-sections in the coronal and transverse planes to help conceptualize the airway in greater detail and in the round. Selective color is utilized throughout the piece to attract and focus the eye. This allows for great detail and neighboring structures to be shown in monotone without detracting from the more relevant anatomy, which is shown at higher saturation and opacity.
