Similar to laparoscopic surgery, robotic surgery offers a minimally invasive approach for many surgical procedures. However, the equipment, room setup, and instrumentation are quite different from laparoscopic surgery. The medical illustrator who has been tasked with drawing robotic surgical procedures will need a basic understanding of these differences. Drawing upon recent experience of illustrating robotic procedures for a surgical atlas, the presenter will introduce the basic concepts of robotic surgery for the medical illustrator.
