Project Description

This series of animations was developed for inclusion in a virtual reality biochemistry lab. While in the lab, students are tasked with learning how to use a bioreactor to propagate E. coli that contain specific genetic material that synthesize insulin. At the appropriate times these videos are shown on a classroom board inside the lab setting. The first animation describes the process through which the genetic material is inserted into E.coli and how antibiotic resistant proteins aid in insulin production. The second video shows a time-lapse of E. coli reproducing in number after the students have added the correct chemicals to the media inside the bioreactor. The third video shows a time-lapse of how insulin increases inside of the E.coli when the students add the correct antibiotic to the bioreactor.
