Alfred Teoli

Canine Heart Transplant
This pen and ink illustration may one of the first illustrations of a heart transplant, as performed experimentally on a dog, well in advance of human transplants, and exemplifies the necessity of medical illustration in explaining significant medical breakthroughs. Created in 1963.
Al Teoli graduated from Hopkins in 1955, and was a traditional renaissance fine artist who had an artistic approach to medical illustration. He taught at the Illinois program in the 1960’s, and gave workshops and demonstrations at a number of AMI meetings.
