Medical lectures and textbooks are often described as “inaccessible” or “hard to read”. In medical education, vast amounts of information need to be taught and learned in limited amounts of time, leaving both educators and students overwhelmed and unengaged. In addition, the lay public is becoming increasingly interested in their own health, and want to be empowered as patients to engage in shared-decision making with their care providers. Because of this there is increasing demand for accessible medical education that can be used by both medical students and professionals, and the public. Whiteboard animations presents as a solution. From a classroom age, people have been conditioned to pay attention to an educator at a whiteboard. Using this, we can simulate the classroom setting in a digital world to enhance medical education. This quick, cost-effective tool is able to disseminate complex medical knowledge in a reliable, joyful and approachable manner. These animations are one way in which, we, at Osmosis have chosen to use to pursue our mission to ‘empower clinicians and caregivers with the best learning experience possible’. We will present the key features of a successful whiteboard animation as well as Osmosis’ approach to whiteboard animations and its part in our company’s mission ‘to empower clinicians and caregivers’.
