Project Description
Squamous cell carcinoma accounts for the majority of all cervical cancers but disease progression can be prevented if abnormal cellular changes are caught early through pap test screening. Several key histological and morphological features serve as markers for pre-malignant stage diagnosis but these are often not well understood by patients. This work was created as a two-page illustration for a health science magazine that targets an educated lay audience interested in information about personal health and medicine. The illustration visualizes the pre-malignant stages leading up to malignant stage 1 squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix at the gross and cellular levels.
