Project Description
Designed for the educated lay public, the goal of this piece was to tell a coherent pathological narrative of the cause of pulmonary tuberculosis at the cellular level, as well as detail key features of each stage of tuberculosis at the tissue level. A major design challenge was finding a layout that could effectively depict the two narratives: (1) the immunological cause of the disease which happens at the cellular level, and (2) the progression of the pathology as it travels upwards in the lung which happens at the tissue level. My solution was to place the two narratives on two different pages and connect the narratives in an arc that would lead the audience’s eye from left to right. Additionally, I used similar shapes and colours to ensure all anatomical and cellular elements across scales were easily recognizable.
