Project Description
This piece was created for a project in Modeling II class. The assignment was to depict a complex life cycle of an organism utilizing 3D tools. The periodical cicada is a genus of cicada that has a lifespan of 13 or 17 years. With the vast majority of this life cycle spent underground, the cicada molts into an adult during the last two months of its life, which is the only part of its life cycle that is visible to the average person. A lay audience is most likely only familiar with the adult cicada and the husk left behind after its final molt, thus emphasis was brought to the cicada’s time spent underground. This piece sparks interest and curiosity by depicting the secret underground life of the periodical cicada.
