Project Description
This plate illustrates the pancreatic histology in the context of its gross anatomy to show the context of the cells that preform the endocrine and exocrine function of the pancreas. The large central inset shows the contents of one pancreatic lobule. Extruding the acinar cells and pancreatic islet allows the surrounding microvasculature to be clearly visualized. This highlights an often-overlooked detail that islet secretions are released first into arterial blood supplied acini before venous return to the liver.
