Project Description

This illustration describes the steps in a blepharoplasty and levator muscle resection, a combined surgery done to reduce excess eyelid skin and correct ptosis. In this surgery, the levator palpebrae superioris muscle, which raises the upper eyelid, is removed from its attachment to the tarsal plate. The muscle is sutured further down on the plate, correcting the drooping eyelid and restoring eyelid symmetry. A three-quarters cross-section view of the eye and eyelid provide a unique view of the layers of the eyelid and the suturing technique. The illustrations were created in Adobe Photoshop and Procreate for iPad. The instruments were modeled in Cinema 4D and integrated with the digitally rendered illustrations.
