Project Description

Cells, and especially neurons, may be perceived by those outside the scientific community as rigid and unmoving. Axon guidance is a fascinating process by which growing neurons sense and grow their axons toward signals that allow them to reach a specific destination.

This 3D animation highlights and explores possible journeys an axon may take, as it is led by the movements of a structure called the growth cone. The animation instills an understanding and appreciation of neuronal movement by immersing the viewer in the environment and depicting the movements of the growth cone in response to the diversity and complexity of elements a neuron may encounter.
