Project Description
The figure on the left provides an overview of the location of infratemporal fossa in the skull, located inferior and medial to the zygomatic arch and medial to the mandible. The zygomatic arch and the mandible are treated semi-transparently to reveal the contents of the fossa medial to those structures. The white circle indicates location of the circular inset, bottom right, depicting the fossa at a deeper level. This provides a view of the otic ganglion and mandibular nerve (V3) with the lat. pterygoid muscles cut. The upper right inset shows the fossa at the level of the zygomatic arch, in axial section. Three views help depict the spatial relationship between structures of the infratemporal fossa situated which lie in a small compact space. Structures are labelled for reference, those in bold indicate contents of the infratemporal fossa.
