Illuminated overview

The 67th Annual Meeting has something to offer everyone. We've taken care to select a venue and to design a schedule that allows for cross-pollination and socializing among our members and with colleagues from related fields. By having all of our programming, salon and social gathering space all in one large area, we hope to make it possible for you to ‘see it all' - see the artwork, see the presentations, and see each other! Our evening Salon Opening will kick off the Meeting on Wednesday, July 25th and the glamorous Awards Banquet will wrap things up on Saturday, July 28th. In between you'll find a very robust group of speakers, workshops, and technical demonstrations that will address the varied interests of today's medical illustrator.

Speaker highlights

Acclaimed medical artist, Audra Geras, will begin our sessions with her keynote address on "Perspectives on a Spectacular Profession - Inspiration for our Future". Audra is a consummate professional and amazing artist and will set the tone for the next three days of stimulating presentations. We are incredibly honored to have world-renowned biologist E.O. Wilson and Gael McGill as our Brodel Memorial Lecturers. They will tell us about the development of "Life on Earth", a revolutionary digital biology textbook, and how the face of educational publication is changing. Other great talks are too numerous to list - see the program [Jeni- active button] content for details.

Clear themes

New this year, we've selected a theme for each day, which will be supplemented with non-themed talks to appeal to a variety of interests.

Brilliant workshops

Wednesday, July 25th

Once again we're offering full and half-day workshops prior to the start of the main program. These will be held on the campus of the Biomedical Communications program in the newly-completed Health Sciences Complex on the Mississauga campus of the University of Toronto. Transportation to and from the hotel will be provided as part of the workshop registration fees. The lineup includes:

Friday, July 27th

Half-day workshops will be offered during the body of the proceedings, at the hotel as well as in locations within walking distance. The First Timers workshop will occur in this slot. Other offerings will be:

Sparkling Tech Showcase

Allowing for a more intimate and meaningful learning experience, our Tech Showcase will be distributed through numerous adjacent rooms of the Delta Chelsea hotel, with ample space for flow and noise reduction. The afternoon workshops will take place at the same time.

Bright Salon

The Traditional and Digital Salons will continue our tradition of proudly displaying examples of members' work to impress and enlighten us. Our digital area will be expanded this year to include more stations for better viewing of the animations and interactive media submissions. New this year will be satellite salons in adjacent Toronto teaching hospitals. Past award-winning pieces will adorn those displays to increase our profile in the broader healthcare market and make researchers and others aware of our conference happening in downtown Toronto.
